My Opinion of “Trade Your Cares for Calm”
Starting with the introduction, I loved this book! Right from the beginning, I realized this book was talking to me! It talks about how we have concerns and worries and how we can find peace and joy. I’m tired of all my worrying, so I definitely wanted to keep reading to find out how to stop being so anxious.
Each story that is told about a specific fear or concern we might be experiencing, was something I could relate to. The first story talks about how you know a storm is coming “so you don’t sleep well. You don’t laugh often.” Then it made me laugh because it says when others laugh or enjoy life, “you give them a look.” The look like, “Haven’t you read the news and heard the reports and seen the studies?” This made me laugh, because this is exactly how I feel sometimes! I read way too many news stories, and I often wonder how can people be so happy with everything going on in the world?
I wish I was better at memorizing Scripture. Reading Bible verses can bring a wonderful sense of calm reassurance. This book has verses that are just what I need to hear. The next time I’m feeling anxious, I can just look in this book to quickly find some calming verses.
I love beautiful pictures, and this book is full of them! I have a Trello board to help me organize various tasks for my blog. The background for each of my Trello boards are beautiful pictures like the ones found in this book. Just seeing the beauty and wonder of the amazing things God created, can calm my fears.
This book is very truthful and helped to see how much I actually do worry. One of the pages has a “weigh your worries” checklist, and I could check off all but one! The good news is, on the next page, is a list of 8 things to do when you’re worried. That’s what’s great about this book. It doesn’t just tell you you’re worried and leave you there! It gives you practical solutions of how to move past your worries and fears.
Another thing I have a difficult time with is making a decision. That’s not good for someone who’s a substitute teacher! I have to make last minute decisions all the time – like whether I want a last second job, what to do in the class when you can’t find the papers listed in the plan, etc. I also just don’t like making decisions about anything in general. Chapter 3 in the book is all about how to realize what you can and can’t control. It’s a great reality check for someone like me. The awesome thing is, the book talks about how God can help you with all of this because He’s the one in ultimate control!
So, you can see that I really needed this book! It’s definitely one I will refer to again and again. When that worry tries to creep back in, I’ll grab my book. I’ll read the encouraging words and verses and gain some calm.
Who is “Trade Your Cares for Calm” For?
I think Trade Your Cares for Calm is for probably everyone. Even those people that seem to be so happy, probably have things they worry about too.
This book would also be good for many different ages. I think it would be great for anyone entering college and on up.
If you’re like me, I know a lot of people who just seemed weighed down with life. They just can’t seem to catch a break. One thing goes wrong, and when that’s resolved, another thing goes wrong. Their life becomes filled with anxiety about what to do with the situation they’re in. They worry about what’s coming next. This book would be a huge blessing to them.
What a great way to witness to someone by giving them this book! You can tell them you know life’s hard and you understand. Then tell them here’s a book with the encouragement they need. I had a teacher friend who was going through a really hard time this school year. If w I would’ve had this book then; I would’ve shared it with her.
Here’s a list of additional people the book would be good for:
- High School graduation gift
- Kids going to college
- A college care package
- Moving out on their own for the first time
- Parents whose have college age kids
- Parents who are new empty nesters
- Anyone who just needs some peace from their worries
