If you’ve been reading my blog for awhile, you know I’m always on the look out for great heart healthy resources, and I’m so excited when I find one! You also know I like using my slow cooker, so this ebook is perfect for me!
Why She Wrote the Recipe Book
Here is what Martha says at the beginning of her cookbook: “I love the slow cooker! As a Lifetime Weight Watcher, I’ve come to realize that a simple crock pot is key to helping me maintain my goal weight. In October 2013, I set out to use my slow cooker every day for a year to make Weight Watchers friendly crock pot recipes that would be easy, healthy and delicious. ”
What’s in the Skinny Slow Cooker Recipe Book
In the beginning of the book, Martha talks about her weight loss journey, how slow cooking helps with that weight loss, slow cooker tips and tricks, and how to make the most out of the cookbook. Her recipes include the amount of calories, fat, carbs, fiber, protein, Weight Watchers points and smart points. The categories are:
- Soups, Stews and Chilis
- Chicken & Turkey
Under those categories are several different recipes, and when you click on one, it takes you right to the recipe.
What I Liked
I like that she wants to teach you about slow cooking too, and doesn’t just give you recipes. I also like that I can just look for the category of food I want to make, just click on the recipe, and be directed to it. It’s much faster to find a recipe that way, rather than having to scroll and scroll looking for one. I think I want to try the Ham & Split Pea Soup (too bad we just gave our ham bone from Easter to my parents), Chicken Parmesan, Homestyle Meatloaf, Mel’s Pork Chops, Baked Oatmeal, and Apple Cake.
Also, there are “cook’s notes” included at the end of each recipe with tips about how to make the recipe, discoveries she made while cooking them, etc.
