Join bestselling author and beloved pastor Max Lucado as he leads you through 30 life-changing promises from God in Praying the Promises. God makes His character clear throughout the Bible: He is a God who saves us, who is faithful, who sends His Comforter, and who has a good and holy purpose for our lives.
In short, He keeps His promises.
But what does that look like in a broken world? Surrounded by confusion, darkness, violence, and pain, where do we see the promises of God at work in our everyday lives?
Max Lucado invites you into a deeper understanding of the peace and security God offers His people in Praying the Promises, a beautiful book that tells stories of God’s faithfulness and offers tangible ways to implement faith into your own prayer life. Whether you are a lifelong believer or if faith is a brand-new adventure, Praying the Promises offers you access to the God who has kept His promises since the beginning of time and will continue to do so for eternity.
A great gift for all ages.
Layout of Each Chapter in Praying the Promises
Each chapter begins with a red page. It has the promise at the top and then the verse that goes with it. This promise was my favorite one in the book.
The next page is always titled “Unshakable Hope.” This is my favorite one because I love how creation proves God’s existence! This promise is about how we can all know God because there’s so much evidence all around us pointing us to who He is.
Then, there’s a page, “Promises from God” with verses supporting the promise mentioned on the red page I showed you above. The promise that “Giants will Fall.” This is so encouraging to me because it’s great to know that we can keep going even in the midst of our trials because God is fighting for us.
Also, notice the lighthouse on the side of the page? A lighthouse is a great symbol of hope and light! So, it definitely fits in with the promises from God!
The next page is “Praying God’s Promises.” I really like this one because I’m often fearful and anxious. So, knowing that God is with me can help me turn to Him and not be afraid.
It’s helpful to have a prayer written out for you. Sometimes it’s easier to pray what someone’s written for you, rather than try to think of something to pray on your own. Plus, it helps keep your prayers focused rather than thinking about other things at the same time.
The very last section in each chapter is an “I am” or “I will” affirmation. It’s a way for you to either say out loud or in your mind what you’re going to do as a result of God’s promise for you.
This one above is actually the first one in the book. It’s a great way to start off reading the book and affirming your commitment to standing on the promises of God.
By the way, did you notice the anchors on the page? They’re a reminder about how we can hold onto God in our time of need. Are you tired of all of the problems of life? Life can be so hard sometimes and we all just need a little relief. You can find hope by praying the promises!Click To Tweet
My Opinion of Praying the Promises
Starting with the introduction, I loved this book! Right from the beginning, I realized this book was very encouraging! It starts off by letting you know that you’re not alone if you have something “shaking your world.” It’s okay because, there’s “unshakable hope” in God’s promises. I couldn’t wait to start reading the book to find out what hope I could find by praying the promises.
As I started reading, the first thing I noticed was the feel of the pages. They feel really nice, like silky smooth! If you love books as much as I do, you’ll appreciate the nice-feeling pages.
I really appreciated all the little details in the book. The red page for the first page in each chapter is a nice touch, as it matches the cover of the book. The lighthouse and anchors on some of the pages reminds us of how much we can trust God because he’s unshakable. Sometimes people need visual reminders, so this is a neat addition to the book.
There were so many pages from this book that I wrote down as my favorite. I shared some of them with you in the pictures above. However, I had to share one more with you because it just spoke to me. In the chapter, “Jesus Offers Living Water,” there’s a line that was written for me. “Fill the holes that are in my heart with your love.” I often feel like something’s missing in my life, and I feel sad and alone. I just need to pray this promise and have God fill those holes. Then I will feel much more complete!
So, you can see that I really needed this book! It’s definitely one I will refer to again and again. When I’m feeling discouraged and shaken by my problems, I’ll grab my book. Then, I’ll read the encouraging words and verses about how God is unshakable. I’ll feel better after praying the promises.
