I couldn’t wait for the New Year to start, so I could start reading my new devotional! It’s A Spectacle of Glory: God’s Light Shining through Me Every Day by Joni Eareckson Tada with Larry Libby. The book is a really nice size and fits just right in my hand. I also really like the picture on the cover. The mountains with God’s light shining on them is just beautiful! Plus, it’s one of those puffy feeling covers, and I always like those.
In each devotion, there is a Scripture reference given at the top. Sometimes the verses are included in the devotion, and sometimes they’re not. So, the first thing I do every night before I read the actual devotion, is look up the Scripture in my Bible. I actually enjoy doing this because it gets me to read my Bible every day. I’m getting better at finding the Scriptures every day too!
Then, the devotion always includes a practical application that so far, has been perfect for me every day. It’s always something I can apply to my life the next day, or something that makes me think more positively about the day I just finished. As I read the application, I sometimes think about how much Joni has gone through and what an amazing woman of God she is. If she can still praise God, than I can certainly praise Him too in the midst of my problems!
Each devotion concludes with a prayer. I really like that, because I don’t always know what to say in my prayers, they often end up off topic. So, these prayers keep me focused and they often speak to me.
One of my favorite devotions so far, has been January 5. Psalm 42: 5-6. It talks about how you can hear negative voices from the world and the devil. You need to remind yourself who you are in Christ, and that the Father loves you. The prayer talks about speaking life and peace into your soul.
