All About Evie and Her Patterns and Holiday Decorations
Here’s what it says on her shop:
“I grew up in a large family in the anthracite coal hills of Pennsylvania. My brothers, sisters and I employed a lot of creativity and imagination in our play around the house and neighborhood. Some of my favorite times involved creating cards and pictures for family, but nothing I drew rivaled my mother’s doodles around her crossword puzzles. With a stub of a pencil and a few crayons, she pulled me into her arts and crafts sensibilities. While I never learned to draw, I did figure out that art and music were an essential part of my emotional well being.
In school, the teachers that went the extra mile — incorporating the fine arts, music, movement activities and games into their curriculum — always had my attention. In high school, one of my teachers taught us plastic canvas. (My mother STILL has a tired, old tissue box cover lovingly rendered for her that year, over 37 years ago!)
Time and again through the decades, when I have needed a Sanity Break, I have returned to my needle and pretty-colored yarns. Learning new stitches and collecting buttons and findings to add to plastic canvas projects has brought me great satisfaction. I still get that gleeful feeling when I give a gift of a handmade Christmas ornament, fridge magnet or sewn item to family and friends. Beginning with altering published patterns, and progressing to creating my own, I have taken my craft into new territory over the past few years. My Home Ec teacher would be proud!
As you browse my shop, know that these items are sewn with care and joy, by the little Coal Region girl that never left her yarn unattended for too long. Thank you for being part of my “craft therapy” — the quiet, happy moments of creation that brighten my days. I hope that the objects you purchase do the same for yours.”
Evie also told me, “The items in my shop are chosen for inclusion on the following criteria:
* “Is it useful/functional?” (i.e. notepad holder, napkin holder, ID tag, fridge magnet)
* Will it let me use my super awesome button stash (teeheehee! love my buttons) for details?”
* “Is it easy to sew (if a pattern), and to adapt to new uses/styles?”

“This listing is for a sweet and festive gift card holder, sewn in hot red, white, black and gold yarns. The front of the gift card holder is sewn to look like Santa’s coat, complete with black belt and buckle. The back of the gift card holder shows the back of the coat. A great fit for gift cards, this item can be reused for years of holiday gift giving, winter birthday gifts and hostess gifts for those Christmas parties.
The gift card holder measures approximately 2 3/4 inches wide and 3 3/4 inches high. Thank you for checking out my Etsy shop!”

Subbing in an elementary school, I know that unicorns are super popular right now! So, any girl would love this unicorn jewelry holder.
You can hang earrings on it.
You can also use this to hold school i.d. cards, which I love! My son just started middle school and he needs a good place to keep his i.d. card in his backpack. If he needs a good place, I’m sure lots of unicorn-loving girls do too!
Evie also has some Christmas jewelry holders. They can also be used as i.d. card holders or gift card holders.

What Kind of Notepad Holders Are in Her Shop?
At the moment, this Dad’s Tie notepad holder is the only one in her shop. It would be a cute gift for Christmas, birthday or Father’s Day. It holds sticky notes.

Why You Should Try These Patterns & Holiday Decorations from ReadySetSewbyEvie
There are so many choices, it’s amazing! Any plastic canvas pattern or holiday decorations that you want, you will definitely find. There’s plenty of different options everyone in your family will enjoy.
You can request your own custom order. You can convo Evie with any special order or just click on the “request custom order” on the left side of her shop. I’ve done this several times before and been very happy with the final product! I wanted some napkin covers to go with my other monthly decor and she didn’t have what I was looking for in her shop. So, I just convo’d her and asked her if she could make what I had in mind. Of course she could!
I love mine!
Like I just mentioned, I’ve asked Evie for a custom order several times. I’ve also purchased some of the napkin holders she already had available in her shop.
The school bus ones are for September. The green for March. Ice cream cones are for June. Flowers are for May. My mom loved my purple napkin holder so much that she asked me to have Evie make one for her too!
It saves you money! Here’s what Evie says about how she can help you save money. The patterns can help save money, “as lots of folks sew needlepoint/cross stitch, and plastic canvas is simply needlepoint on larger “holed” canvas. As such, Christmas and birthday gifts can be created in a person’s color, button and materials choice for relatively little money. One pattern can be adapted to make many gifts.”
One year, I made my son’s teachers gifts, using plastic canvas patterns. It was so much cheaper to make them myself! Plus, the teachers loved them because they were unique and practical (I made them tissue box covers). In fact, when I subbed in one of their classes at the end of the last school year and needed a tissue, I was pleasantly surprised to see she was still using my tissue box in her classroom.
You can even send the patterns and holiday decorations as a gift. I know these are gifts I’d definitely like to receive! I’ve also mentioned that it’s a gift my mom wanted to receive too.
These would be a great bridal shower, wedding, house warming, first time living on your own, any holiday or birthday gift. Like I already mentioned, I think they would also make nice teacher gifts. I know that teachers are tired of the usual gifts they get, so they would love to get this as a gift!
Also, perfect gifts for any crafter!
Sewing is a good way to unwind. Evie says, “We live in a fast-paced, clickers click world, and taking time to be still (and sew!) is good for your emotional well being.”
This is a great thing to teach your children/students. My mom taught me how to make things using plastic canvas, and I taught my daughter. My mom and I were both able to turn ours into a business. She sold hers at craft fairs. I sold mine at craft fairs and online. My daughter made lots of presents using plastic canvas patterns.
Three of my son’s elementary school teachers kept the arts alive in their classrooms by teaching their students how to make things. A couple of the teachers taught the kids themselves. One taught the kids how to sew a potpourri pillow. One taught them how to make all kinds of different art projects. Another teacher also had an older lady neighbor come into the classroom once a week and teach some of the girls how to knit. The kids all absolutely loved learning how to make things themselves and enjoyed giving them to their parents as presents.
So, if any teacher knows how to do plastic canvas, they should buy some of Evie’s patterns to teach the kids in their classroom how to make their own gifts for their parents. Parents are always willing to donate the items needed to make the crafts. It wouldn’t be much needed either – just needles, yarn, and plastic canvas. All of those things are inexpensive.
